At Astbury School we use Essential’s by Chris Quigly to assess and monitor children’s progress against the National curriculum. Children in years one and two work through milestone one, children in years three and four work through milestone two and children in years five and six work through milestone three. Below are the learning targets which children will be assessed against in each of the three milestones for reading, writing and maths.
These targets are expected to be met by the end of each milestone. It is important to remember that a milestone is a duration of two years. You will receive information about your child’s progress towards these milestone each term. To enable us to show progress over each two year period, the milestones have been divided into three sections: emerging, developing and secure and at Astbury school, we have further broken down each section into three further units 1,2 and 3. This is all explained in the assessment information for parents presentation that was given in March 2016.
As well as ongoing termly assessment, your child has a statutory assessment at the end of the EYFS, end of KS1 and end of KS2. The criteria against which they are assessed is included below
